Medicare

How do I know if I’m eligible for Medicare?

  • Are you aged 65 or older
  • Are you under the age of 65 and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for at least 2 years
  • Are you Under the age of 65 with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, you are eligible for Medicare! It’s time to get you signed up.

What is Medicare?

You’ll sign up for “Original Medicare”, which includes Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). We highly recommend that you also sign up for Part B, and not for Part A only, unless you have insurance through an employer or you qualify for an additional exception.

Think you qualify for an exception?

When can I enroll in Medicare?

You have a 7-month window to sign up for Original Medicare. You can enroll at any time in the 3 months preceding or the 3 months following your 65th birthday month.

If you already receive SSI benefits and are between the ages of 62-65, you will be auto-enrolled in Medicare.

If you are between the ages of 62 and 65 and you already receive SSI benefits, you will be automatically enrolled in Medicare when you turn 65 years old.

Medicare Roadmap

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) are required to provide the same coverage as Original Medicare (Parts A & B), and must cover emergency care both within and outside of their service areas. While most Part C plans do offer Prescription Drug Coverage (Medicare Part D), some do not. Make sure if you need prescription drug coverage, that it is included in your Medicare Advantage Plan.
