How do I know if I’m eligible for Medicare?

Are you?

  • Aged 65 and older
  • Under the age of 65 and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for at least 2 years
  • Under the age of 65 with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

If yes to any of those, you are! It’s time to get you signed up.

What is Medicare?

You’ll sign up for “Original Medicare.” So you’ll sign up for Part A (Hospital Insurance). Unless you have insurance through an employer, we highly recommend you also sign up for Part B (Medical Insurance) unless you qualify for an additional exception.

When can I enroll in Medicare?

You have a 7 month window to sign up for Original Medicare, 3 months prior to and 3 months following your 65th birthday.

***NOTE: If you already receive SSI benefits and are between the ages of 62-65, you will be auto-enrolled in medicare.

How do I enroll in Medicare?

You can enroll online through Social Security, by calling the Social Security office at 1-800-772-1213, or in person at a Social Security office.
